RE: I heard a rumor about a manufacturer, is it o.k. to tell it?

If product A is selling well and product B is selling poorly, stop selling B and make more of A.
typical motivational speaking stuff...
Actually it is the rule of supply and demand. And it is perfectly illustrated in the last few months.
After $4.00 per gallon became a reality we saw a significant drop in gasoline use this summer. That prompted gasoline inventories to rise and demand to drop, investors started getting out of oil as fast as they could sell, the price of oil started dropping like a rock, and pump prices started falling almost immediately.
Some people demanded government intervention, but once again the free market showed how it will always rein supreme. In the time it took politicians to arrange a committee to "analyze and discuss" the problem the free market had already started to create the solution.

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

It doesn't matter how much Pat bidded on it....and it doesn't matter if it was carlessness or a mistake...and I don't believe for one second they purposely did this...
And I don't need lawyers or contracts or fine print to tell me right from wrong...
Gamersredneckwife,
Here is the problem. You seem to think Nelson RV put that trailer up for sale without a reserve in error. If this was the case (and we never heard if it was or not) then that is their error. Pat bid on the item and never did anything wrong.
At the end of the sale Nelson RV had a choice. Apparently they felt that the sale was too low. They could have called Pat and told him there was a mistake and see if they could work something out. Instead, they started making up stories one after the other. They lied over and over and tried to tell him that eBay didn't matter. This is after the fact they have sold several trailers on eBay and certainly didn't have a problem taking other's money.
In my book they got what they deserved.

You know, if they had just done this in the first place think of all the bad publicity they could have prevented.
Amazing.

It will be interesting to see the interview. Can't wait to see what the dealership has to say to defend their actions.

RE: Fair price

I agree with Rookiecamper. $9500 would seem fair, but you could ask for a little more because you are on the East Coast.
Adding 10-15% to a trade in value sounds reasonable as well.

RE: Jayco 197 vs. Trail Cruiser 21RBH - quality differences?

As you can see by my signature I have had both a Jayco and an R-Vision Trail-Lite hybrid. Personally I think the quality of the two isn't that much different. The Trial-Lite was 7 years old when I sold it and everything still worked great.
I really like my Jayco but would buy another R-Vision model in a heartbeat if I found one I wanted.

RE: Trail-Lite Bantam Question

With a trailer this old, it really is much more about the condition of the unit and how it was maintained that it is about the brand. My 2000 Bantam had held up great. I spoke with the new owners last month and they still have yet to have any problems with it. However, mine was in excellent condition and well maintained by the original owner when I purchased it in 2006.
As with any hybrid it is all about leaks. Check very carefully for water damage near the beds, under the front storage compartment, and on the ceiling. Water is what kills these trailers. If you find signs of water damage I would pass no matter how good the deal.

RE: Tucson Dealer won't honor E-Bay Auction- Advice

Seems fairly obvious someone screwed up here when listing the sale. As others mentioned my first inclination would be to let it go, but the way they lied to you and basically told you to go away would fire me up as well.
I would go after them, and I would would be interested in what eBay had to say are your rights.

RE: I don't get it......

My wife and I enjoy cruising as well as spending time at our camper. We are currently getting ready to book a 7-night cruise in February and we estimate to spend at least $2,500 before airfare just for the two of us. If we took all three kids it would cost around $5,000 when all is said and done.
In other words, that one week vacation for our family would cost more than we spend for an entire year's worth of payments and seasonal fees for our trailer that we get to use whenever we wish from April through October.

RE: tent end problems?

If your in a good campground those rowdy people get asked to leave.. because you don't only hear them in Hybrids you can hear them in TT,5ths and MH :)
Just wanted to point out that hybrids let in much more noise than a regular TT. I am not picking on them, but newbies just need to understand that you are essentially sleeping in a tent. Not a big deal in a wide open campground or out in the boonies....can be an issue in a crowded campground with lots of noise around you.

RE: What did I get myself into? I'M DONE!!!

Always nice to see someone take the time to save an older unit. Someone else would have sent that to the scrap yard, but with a little time and effort you now have given that thing a new lease on life.
Nice job! :W

RE: Bye Bye PUP...hello HTT!

We started by looking for one that was just slightly used when we heard about a 2000 Trail-Lite B19 for sale by owner for $6900. I was very concerned about purchasing something that old, but after checking it over we decided to go for it.
Anything this old needs to be thoroughly inspected for problems. You must check for any signs of water leaks, and common problem areas are in the roof and around the bunk doors. Be sure to look under the front storage cabinet, the ceiling around vents, and for any stains anywhere on the ceiling.
If you find water damage I would move on - personally no matter how good the deal I would pass on anything showing water damage. And just so you know, many owners of brand new hybrids have posted problems with leaks as well. Newer doesn't always mean better. :W
We were fortunate in that ours was very well maintained and had the luxury of being stored inside by the original owner. Just spoke with the new owners last month and it is still holding up great.

RE: Finalizing negotiations question

Here is what I would do if I were in your shoes.
First, go to RV Direct and get a quote on the Jayco you are interested in. Be sure to get freight including to the zip code you wish to take delivery. This would be your target price, but many will say if you are within $500 of this price you did good.
Another option is to use the NADA guide. A 2008 Jayco 25RKS shows low retail of $16,000. Don't add any options as this price should include most standard equipment (awning, microwave, A/C, etc.). Add whatever your freight quote is from RV Direct to this price and you have another idea what a great deal would be.
If the dealer is significantly higher (I would say more than $1,000) above these figures I would keep looking. When I purchased my Jayco 31BHS last year ($17,500 plus tax - no other hidden charges) it was exactly what NADA low retail showed and was actually a little lower than the RV Direct quote, so yes you can get a good deal locally.

RE: Lite Weight Travel Trailers

We had the same problem and ended up with a hybrid. Our trailer was only 2880# unloaded and only 3600# ready for camping. New hybrids are a little heavier, but you could still find a nice 19' model around 4000# ready to camp.
If you don't mind sleeping under tents, they offer the most available space for someone with limited towing capacity.

RE: First Trip report. Getting new Tow vehicle tomorrow.

Yep - a V6 Explorer does fine if you are only towing on level pavement but hills can be a real struggle. That is the advice I tell people all the time when the subject of towing with a V6 Explorer comes up.
There was one steep on ramp to I-94 near my home that I had to avoid because I simply couldn't get above 45mph before merging into traffic. Awfully scary on a busy Friday night with traffic moving at 70-80mph.

Not only do I believe MFinCa is correct, but if I recall he is also an insurance agent or adjuster (can't remember which one).
